What happens when Verdi meets soul? Opera Reimagined answers that question in a way Birmingham has never seen before.

Opera Reimagined is a co-production of Definitive Productions and Opera Birmingham, and the flagship staging of an annual series designed to bring opera companies across the country into conversation with new, younger, and more diverse audiences. Birmingham is where it all begins.

Opera Birmingham brings back Jose Maldonado in the title role, to join Birmingham’s own Elias Hendricks III, Sadie Goodman, Allison Sanders, and spoken word artist T. Walker also featuring the internationally acclaimed group Vox Fortura, this production brings together extraordinary voices across genres for an evening that is equal parts intimate and electric.

Opera Reimagined brings one of opera’s most gripping stories to life through Classical Soul — a genre that fuses the power of classical and operatic music with the spirit of soul, R&B, and musical theatre. The result is a completely new kind of performance: emotionally charged, genre-defying, and made for audiences who may have never stepped foot inside an opera house — and for those who have and are ready to be surprised.

Performance length is approximately 75 mins, with one intermission.
