Opera Shots is our annual series of casual pop-up concerts throughout the community, held in unexpected places and designed to break down the stereotypes of opera. Opera Shots concerts feature members of the Opera Birmingham Chorus and surprise guest artists presenting an open-mic-style concert of the greatest hits of opera and musical theatre. In the age of COVID-19, Opera Birmingham is adapting and ready to continue bringing innovative entertainment opportunities to our community. This season’s Opera Shots are mobile outdoor concerts, presented from the back of a flatbed truck!

Admission is free. Bring your own refreshments, lawn chairs and picnic blankets. For the health of our patrons, staff and performers, masks are required at the event, and social distancing will be in effect.

The October 25th Opera Shots will feature guest artists, Drew Duncan, Shelby Fordham, Emily Jaworski, Tjaden O'Dowd, Joseph Robinson, Dalton Rowe and Zoe Wirt, accompanied by Christy Vest on piano and Lucina Horner on mandolin. Selections will include “Habanera” from Carmen, “Deh vieni alla finestra” and “Batti Batti” from Don Giovanni, “Lonely House” from Street Scene, “O mio babbino caro” from Gianni Schicchi, “Glitter and Be Gay” from Candide, “Impossible Dream” from Man of La Mancha, “Someone to Watch Over Me” by Gershwin, “Why God Why” from Miss Saigon, “I Could Have Danced All Night” from My Fair Lady, “You’ll Never Walk Alone” from Carousel, “Simple Little Things” from 110 in the Shade, and “Let It Go” from Frozen.

Opera Shots will continue monthly throughout the fall, as we pop up at unexpected locations all across the Birmingham Metro area. Stay tuned for dates and locations.

Opera Shots is sponsored by EcoLogical Insulation of Birmingham, LLC, Medical Properties Trust, Inc., and VIVA Health, Inc., with additional support from Red Mountain Theatre Company.
